“The Sweetest Song”

The sweetest song I ever heard
Was warbled by a lonely bird,
Outside my window … in a tree,
So gayly serenading me.
I heard him there as flaming dawn
Sent shafts of gold across the lawn.

Then morning winds began to weep
And other birds, aroused from sleep,
]oined in with joyous harmony,
And soon I heard, a symphony
Of warbled songs, and chirps, and trills,
That echoed from the distant hills
To fill my lonely heart with song,
And to inspire me all day long
With Nature’s music written by
The Great Composer in the sky.
