“Forty Years”

Ruth and Art Mapes, summer of 1958

Just forty years ago today
I took you for my wife.
Your nearness drove my cares away,
You brightened up my life.

It just don’t seem like forty years
Could roll around so fast,
Yet every memory endears
The sweet days of the past.

Sweet mem’ries of those happy days
Rush back from days long gone,
Life has been good in many ways,
Our happiness lives on.

Yes, forty years ago today
You were my blushing bride;
And we still travel on today
Together … side by side.

Rejoice, dear one, and may God bless
Our anniversary.
With simple words may I express
How much you mean to me.
